A Slight Detour

1.11.14

The new year finds La Puerta Originals converting an antique desk into a guest room entertainment center, and creating gorgeous custom furniture and elements for a new spa up in Colorado

I know we are in the middle of the Canyon Road tour, but I just have to share some of the new pieces coming out of the shop.  It was kind of that sleepy time, shifting gears from being closed over the holidays to the invigoration and inspiration of the New Year.  I ambled in, not expecting much to be happening and was wowed by what was there.  And, I guess I can sort of tie it in to the tour, since one is a piece that I mentioned we are modifying for the Canyon Road clients.

Desk Cabinet

I will start there.  Although I have been tracking it as it makes its way through the various shops, I am only going to show it as it was when I went in on Thursday.  I hope to later sort through my photos, and the digital filing cabinet and show it (and some of the other pieces we will see here today) from raw material to finished product.  I find those to be interesting posts, but they are also very time consuming.

Desk Cabinet

The clients brought us an antique desk cabinet that had been in the family, and we replaced the crown, feet, and modified the drawer fronts.  I thought that was a great idea – to have La Puerta Originals refresh and update a much loved piece.

I can’t wait to show you the before and after.  I will put it on my TODO.

10235-20 Water Feature Base

Above is the facia for the base of a water feature at a new spa.  Is that not gorgeous?  Let’s see it again, straight on.

I will have to add that to the TODO for a more expansive entry.

Piano-shaped bench

Another piece that caught my eye was this piano-shaped storage bench.

Intriguing…I will definitely follow the progress on this one and hope to feature it in a future post.  One more for the TODO.

Table

I don’t think the photos do the drama of this table justice, but I am featuring it anyway.  Those legs are gor-geous!

I think one of the reasons I like so many La Puerta Original pieces has to do with the curves.  Think of all the curves found in nature – rare is the straight line.  The finish on the table is a complex mix of greens and browns and a little bit of white – it reminded me of mossy woods.  I had trouble with the glare from the overhead lights, but these shots should give you an idea of the richness of that hand-rubbed patina.  Click to be wowed.

One of the first things I saw when I ambled in was one of Scout’s toys perched on a carved column base.

Smiling is a nice way to start the day.  Scout is one of the many La Puerta Originals dogs.

He loves his toys.  It helps to remind us that, even though he has grown so much, he is still a puppy.

I always like to end with the best, so now I share with you the reception desk for the new spa (mmm…doesn’t that sound lovely on this cold winter day!).  In a future post I hope to show you more of how it came to be, and also to let you know where the spa is!  Let’s go!
